For those of you who have been concerned about my recent self-imposed exile (aka pity party!) let me reassure you that life is not passing me by. OH NO - this gal has been keeping up with all the latest world news. Let's see now...Michael Jackson was buried today, amid more pomp and circumstance than any one freako deserves. And Steve McNair cheated on his wife with a recent teenager and she ends up shooting him. Hmmm..and Jillian on The Bachelorette FINALLY came to her senses and gave skeevy ol' Wes the TX boot! I think that about sums it up, at least these are the only stories I have seen on CNN and MSNBC and all those other newsy sites. At least these stories bumped Jon & Kate and their 8 right off the front page headlines!
Now, being the practical sort of gal that I am, I am sure that my take on these very noteworthy happenings is a bit skewed. Call me crazy (and many have!) but I tend to think that the news should be about war and the price of gas and perhaps even some feel-good, Samaritan type of story that warms the cockles of your heart. Everybody's crazy affairs and talented pedophiles who pass away just don't seem like they warrant this much attention! Guess I am getting too old and set in my ways - but the 24/7 paparazzi-driven news cycle we live in today is just about on my one last good nerve.
As for the title of this post - probably had you wondering, didn't it? My new favorite country song, if only because it fits so appropriately with these recent news events, is by Billy Currington and is called People are Crazy. The chorus goes "God is great, beer is good, and people are crazy". Amen and amen!! God IS great, beer is good because it feeds and clothes my family (hubby works for Budweiser!) and people have just gone dadgum nuts these days. Jiminy H. Cricket - I feel like Maxine from the Hallmark cards because I just want to tell people what complete nutjobs they are. Not sure it would be appreciated, though, since I am NOT a cartoon character wearing funny bunny slippers. Plus, Maxine has the advantage of age - the older you get, it seems the more "honest" you can become without anyone really doing anything about it. It seems to work great for my grandmothers, who are both 93 and never hesitate to say the least tactful thing possible to anyone who is crazy enough to drop by for a chat! So, in about 15 more years I figure that I am just going to start spewing out my first (and middle and last, too) thoughts about whatever insanity is taking place in the world and then I will feel oh so much better. And then like Maxine and my grannies, I will just sit back and smile as though I have not completely offended most of those within earshot.
That's my opinion and it ought to be yours! =)

oh, Lana, you made me giggle just a little bit.....sad stories for sure, but your perspective is right on.

You've summarized my feelings almost exactly regarding all the MJ craziness. Why such the big deal about a freak pedophile? And McNair; bros with hos got to watch out for the crazy ones. He paid the ultimate price for his creepin'.
Take a break and eat some cake!
Too funny! Poor John and kate...I bet they are happy to be off that cover~
