Getting My Read On

Ahhhh - another Monday is coming to an end. And while every day is a blessing, Mondays just seem to not feel quite as blessed as some of the other days of the week! Take Saturdays, for example...is there another day out of the week that is as fun as Saturday? When you can sleep in a bit longer, even if just for an extra 30 minutes or so? And when you can usually talk your hubby into making some social plans, because he isn't so tired from working all week. And even when your head hits the pillow on Saturday night, you still have one more glorious day before you have to think about work and school and "week" stuff. Saturdays are the best, in my humble opinion.

Being at the beach gives me that Saturday feeling all week long. We recently spent the week at the beach for Cameron's spring break trip. We love family road trips because we laugh and talk and sing and talk and eat junk food and just generally have a good time together. (well, except for the very near misses that Cameron's driving allows me to witness, thereby making me believe that perhaps I do need a Valium prescription after all!) Anywho, once we get to the beach I can literally feel all of the tension in my shoulders and neck just disappear. The sea and sand and sky just give me such a sense of peace, and also such a sense of God's omnipotence and omnipresence. That is the one place in the world that truly feeds my soul. Besides going for early morning walks and having my worship time with God, I also can completely lose myself in a great book while at the beach. Give me a chair, a cool drink, and something to read and I can sit for literally hours (or for however long my bladder allows) without moving. This vacation I read two books, and the interesting thing about both is that they both dealt with really serious topics which I usually avoid when on vacay. However, even though they weren't light and fluffy beach reading I thoroughly enjoyed both and can recommend them to you if you are looking for a new read - go out and buy The Middle Place by Kelly Corrigan and Souvenir by Therese Fowler. Be forewarned, though - you also need to buy some Kleenex because you might shed a tear or two with both!

Since this is Cameron's senior year, it was also most likely our last spring break trip with him. I am not naive enough to assume that once he gets to college he will want to spend his future vacations with dear ol' mom and dad. So that fact made this trip very special, very bittersweet, and full of tears for me because I will just flat out miss that kid when he leaves us. He is such a fun person to travel with and we have loads of laughs. I envy his future traveling companions because they will have many fun adventures with my baby!

Well, it is late here in Brentwood and I am winding down. Hope you get a chance to read the books I recommended!

I am so glad that you are back on here. I love reading about what's going on. This one made me cry. I know I say it alot, but I am just in awe of how well you are handling Cameron and his future. I get sad just thinking about him not being around, and I rarely see him. I can only imagine the bitter sweet feelings you must have. I am glad the beach was so amazing this year, and thanks for stopping by on Sunday. It made my day. See you sunday, thanks for the uplifting blog. Love, Lex
