See these two beautiful brown-eyed girls? Well, they are also my birthday girls today! Daughter Dana is 28 today, and her darling Ellie is 1 year old! How the time has flown - I can still remember very vividly birthing Dana all those years ago and this time last year I had the privilege of watching Ellie come into this world. From the moment that both drew their first breaths, they completely captured my heart. You always assume that a new life will change your life in dramatic ways, but until you are a mother, and a grandmother, I just don't think anyone can truly grasp that selfless, all-consuming love for another human being.
I had a wonderful day today, because I got to have lunch and a bit of a shopping excursion with Dana to celebrate her day. It was such a treat for me to be able to spend time alone with her, because our times together these days consist of her dropping off the girls for a visit, or when the rest of the family is around. Those are special times indeed, but it just was lovely to spend some alone time with my only daughter. We certainly have had our share of tense moments during her teen years, but once she grew up and went to college and married and became a mom - we became friends. And I totally enjoy her company! God has blessed me more than I deserve with wonderful, healthy, God-fearing children and I continue to be amazed at the precious human beings they are parenting themselves.
So, happy, happy birthday to my two brown-eyed girls - may this year bring you all the happiness your heart and hands can hold!!
Mwah (that's me blowing you a kiss)...Mom and Mimi
