Happy Love Day!!

Today is Valentine's Day - the day set aside for telling those you love just how you feel about them. It is estimated that people will spend approximately $14 billion on Valentine's cards, candy, flowers, etc. But wouldn't it be wonderful if that $14 billion could be funneled to those in real need, while those of us who would be spending it instead choose to share our hearts very simply with those around us? An old poster from my teen years said "if you love someone, let them know". And that doesn't just mean on February 14th but every day of every year that you exist! There is an entire chapter of the Bible dedicated to telling us how to love, famously used at probably every wedding you have ever attended. And those words from St. Paul still resonate today - I Cor. 13:4-7 "Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres."

I want to love like that. I want to cast off envy and bitterness and anger and put my heart fully into those around me. The love that God showed for each of us, while we continue to sin, is the kind of selfless love that I want to show. And it is only with His help, the guidance of the Holy Spirit, that truly selfless love will be mine to give and receive. Life is a journey marked by potholes and pitfalls but I want to keep walking it in faith and hope and love!

"And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love." May the God of love bless each and every one of you today and always!!
